Problem Solving and Educational Technology Lab

Lab Overview

Located in the School of Psychology at the Georgia Institute of Technology, the Problem Solving and Educational Technology (PSET) Lab brings together a diverse group of faculty and students interested in a wide range of equally diverse topics. Students in the PSET Lab, under the direction of Dr. Richard Catrambone, are currently examining a range of problem-solving and human-computer interaction issues.

Research Themes

The PSET lab investigates many areas of learning and technology that can be categorized under three main pillars:

Problem Solving & Learning Expertise
We investigate how people acquire skills, transfer knowledge, and adapt their learning strategies. Projects include subgoal learning, task analysis, practice schedules, and instructional design for procedural tasks.

Instructional Design & Technology for Learning
We design and test instructional materials across various media, including instructional agents and multimedia presentations, as well as interventions, with a focus on efficiency, engagement, and knowledge transfer.

Human–Computer Interaction
Our work examines how humans interact with digital systems, ranging from multimedia instruction and virtual humans to mobile learning tools.
